The Details

Welcome to 6 Stanford Street, located in the Highlands of Holyoke's exclusive Ivy League neighborhood. Built in 1926 for Adelaide Ramage, widow of James Ramage, former president and treasurer of the Franklin Paper Company, this remarkable Tudor Revival blends historic character and extraordinary craftsmanship.

Designed by Aldolf Franz, this house has a decorative, skillfully crafted brick and half-timbered exterior. The front asymmetric two-story gable is carefully patterned in an elaborate design of contrasting red and over-fired dark brick within a framework of dark half-timbering.The gabled bay overhangs the door, underpinned with a row of brackets. Other walls have a diamond pattern in the masonry. Slates on the hipped roof are graduated in size, larger at the eaves. Vertical inset panels decorate brick chimneys with flared tops. The panelled oak entry door is set in a tabbed stone Tudor arch with carved escutcheons and fleurs-de-lys. Also on the front is a through-cornice dormer. The westside is a Tudor-arched open corner porch.

When you cross the threshold of this amazing property, you’ll immediately notice the exemplary craftsmanship, a product of a bygone era. Walk in through the double-doored entry with original tiled floor into the grand foyer. From the crown molding to the oak wainscoting, French doors, oak floors and hand-carved staircase, this foyer is a delight to behold.

The home's first floor half bath is tucked under the staircase in the foyer. From the foyer, you can proceed through the French doors to the large living room. With oak built-in book cases encasing a hand-carved stone fireplace, this space offers quality and comfort.

You’ll love the abundance of natural light coming in from eight windows on three sides of the living room. The oak wainscoting and oak flooring continue into this space. Through a second French door you are led to the home’s 19.5' x 18' dining room. This space again features stunning oak wainscoting, coffered ceilings, double French doors connecting to the foyer and two single french doors that lead to the rear patios. Pass through the original swing door and you will find yourself in the butler's pantry, leading to the kitchen. These two rooms were beautifully renovated. The pantry features an abundance of custom built cabinetry, Nero granite counter tops, under cabinet lighting and the original Treageser stainless steel sink. In the 18' x 16' kitchen you will find the same custom cabinetry and Nero black granite counter tops. You will love the large 5.5' x 6.5' kitchen island with gorgeous Blue Eyes granite, seating for 4 and home to the 6 burner Viking gas cook top. On the opposite wall is the Viking double oven and subzero fridge/freezer. This gorgeous kitchen, like many of the rooms in this home, also features many windows letting in an abundance of natural light. You will love the two closets in the kitchen for extra storage and the first floor laundry is also off of the kitchen. From the kitchen you connect to the back hallway, rear entrance, cellar entrance and rear secondary staircase.

Ascending the grand staircase to the second floor, you will find a wonderful layout of spacious rooms. To the left is the full guest bathroom, featuring original details and tilework. The archway leads to two large bedrooms, with large closets and windows on two sides. Bedrooms three and four are currently being used as home offices. The primary bedroom is exceptionally spacious and has five windows overlooking the rear yard. The second full bathroom is accessible from the primary bedroom and the hallway and features original tile with a tub/shower, original mirrored medicine cabinet, and a beautifully updated vanity with stone countertop.

In the basement, you will find an additional half bath, a large den, and a game room with a pool table that is to stay with the home.

This property offers a larger than average sized lot with a nice grass buffer from Pleasant Street. The main rear yard is fenced in and features many patio areas and a fantastic deck featuring IPE Brazilian walnut decking with a sunken hot tub that will stay with the home. You will love the mature gardens and landscaping. There is a separately fenced in side yard— perfect for the pets!

Located in the heart of the Pioneer Valley/Connecticut River Valley. A short drive to the 5 colleges, 3 local hospitals and the Amtrak station.
